Youth Programs Grades 9-12

Youth Programs at UUCDC - Everyone is Welcome!

Grades 8 & 9 Pathways to Coming of Age - Offered every year

This program, new as of 2016-17, is designed to help the youth experience Unitarian Universalism in different ways. The youth will gain a deeper knowledge of our faith in a safe environment for questioning. Through activities, relationship building, and involvement in the church and broader community, it will start the youth on their journeys of spiritual exploration, building a foundation for spiritual self-awareness development in the more intensive Coming of Age program.

The Pathways to Coming of Age program includes a variety of opportunities for the youth to experience Social Justice and Social Action activities, as well as engaging in Service to the Church Community. Some activities include serving as hosts for a Family Promise dinner, working as a team at the Hunger Task force, assisting the Young Families group for a Holiday event (Halloween or Easter) possibly on a joint project with the YUUCKIs, and more. The class usually meets on Sunday evenings from 6 - 8 pm.

Grades 9 & 10 Coming of Age - Offered every other year

The Coming of Age program at UUCDC is one of the oldest in the region, and one of the most valued programs at our church! In this program, youth mark a rites of passage in a world that has erased many of these important growth markers. Similar to a confirmation or bar/batmitzvah, Coming of Age is a program specifically meant to explore one's personal faith, values and beliefs, and articulate them, often in the form of a Credo statement crafted throughout the year. Participants go on retreats, hold fundraising events with the church, and create a worship service in which they read their credos. The program is supplemented by volunteer mentors from the church community, chosen by the youth. This is an optional program and highly recommended, but does require commitment from the whole family to keep track of the calendar and help with events. The class typically meets Sunday evenings from 6 - 8:30 pm.

Grades 9-12 Y.U.U.C.K.I.
