We Are a Welcoming Congregation!
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware (UUCDC) is a Welcoming Congregation that seeks to celebrate and support the lives, the relationships, and contributions of its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual members and friends. We affirm and promote full participation of everyone in the life of our congregation and our community.
When and how did UUCDC become a Welcoming Congregation?
The UUA offers sixteen action steps as a guideline for UU congregations who seek to become a Welcoming Congregation. One of the action steps is to include specific language in the organization's non-discrimination statement in the bylaws, policies, and organizational literature.
Our congregation's Welcoming Congregation Resolution was voted on and accepted on April 21, 2002.
Are there other Welcoming Congregations?
Yes, in the United States and Canada, there are over 400 Welcoming Congregations in the Unitarian Universalist Association.
Interweave at UUCDC
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) individuals are a vital and vibrant part of Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County's community. To foster an environment that is sensitive to and supportive of the presence, needs, and concerns of LGBT members in our congregation and the community at large, we have created a chapter of Interweave at UUCDC in Media, PA. We want to encourage the development of a community within the community -- one that is a distinct, yet integral part of the whole. We want to become a more visible and active presence in our church and in Delaware County through activities such as outreach, social action, religious education, inclusion in worship , and, of course, good old-fashioned fun! (Check out our brochure.)
