Rose Tree Concert Series
at the UUCDC
The Rose Tree Concert Series was formed in 1986 by a group of people interested in bringing chamber music of a professional caliber to the Philadelphia suburbs. The superb acoustics of the Fellowship Hall of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County made it an obvious choice of location. Its modern architecture, natural setting and central location in the County as well as a pronounced interest in music by members of the congregation have all contributed to the success of the series.
In the years since then, three concerts a year have been performed - Sundays at 7 PM. There is a reception after the concert for the audience to meet the artists. Major works of over sixty composers have been presented. Comprehensively represented are musical styles from the Baroque, Classic, Romantic, and Twentieth Century periods. Recent works from Philadelphia area composers are also featured. Many of the performing artists live in the region, belonging to such groups as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Ballet and Opera. Some teach at the University of Pennsylvania, West Chester, and Swarthmore College.
Artistic Director is Professor Richard Veleta of West Chester University. He is assisted by a volunteer committee and church secretary. The ambiance is intimate, direct and immediately involving. Artists who have performed in past years are now on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Orpheus Ensemble.
