Facilitator: Rev. Elizabeth Ellis
April 1, 15, 22
Sundays 12:30-1:30 pm
What is prayer, anyway? We’ll define it as being in conscious relationship with the Sacred (or Infinite, or Transcendent, Higher Power, or God). Using head, heart, and spirit we’ll engage in Biblically-based styles of prayer bringing our own experience, free thinking, and creativity to the effort. By participating in some ancient forms of contemplative, imaginative prayer and sacred reading we’ll see if there is relevance here for our own lives and spiritual practice.

Thomas Merton and the Unitarian Universalist Faith
Facilitators: Elek Fenyes and Terry McGinnity II
Wednesday April 25, 7:30-9:30 pm
Thomas Merton (1915-1968) was a Trappist Monk. Yet his writings about race relations, violence, nuclear war, and economic injustice resonate well within the Unitarian Universalist community. Learn about this fascinating person, who became a world renowned author and spiritual leader in the mid-20th century, without leaving the monastery and listen to a presentation by a man who, at a critical point in his life, had a conversation with Merton at Gethsemani Abbey, in Trappist, Kentucky.
The evening will also include a debate between Elek, a member of our church, representing Personal Agnosticism, and Terry, the author of the book The Agnostic Path to God: A Creed for Modern Skeptics, who will represent Believing Agnosticism.
