Adult Religious Education

RE is not just for KIDS!

This year Adult Religious Education workshops will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and occasional Saturdays. Adult RE Discussion Forums will be held on Sunday mornings prior to worship. In addition to the highlighted offerings below, watch for offerings on Sufism, Buddhism, Women's Spirituality and Parenting Classes.

The Road to Boston - A series of workshops designed to deepen and enrich the experience when we actually hit the road to Boston on April 24-27, 2008!. Going on the trip or not, these workshops will deepen and enrich your understanding of Unitarian Universalist History & Traditions.

Additional "Road to Boston" Workshops (topics TBA)

will continue to look at Unitarian Universalist History and the women and men who shaped it. Watch for updates!

Adult RE Discussion Forums - Join us Sunday mornings at 8:45am for a variety of interesting topical discussions facilitated by Adult RE volunteers. Structured in the small group ministry format, these discussions provide an opportunity for all to participate. Topics published weekly. Everyone is welcome.

Sermon Discussions! - Ever have a yearning to talk about and process what you just heard in the worship service? Many people prefer to process ideas in dialogue with others. This fall Sermon Discussions will be held each Sunday after the service in the sanctuary at 11:45 am. Facilitated by that day's Worship Associate, these sessions will encourage the expression of thoughts and reactions to issues raised during the service. Everyone is invited to attend and offer their insights.

How to Talk About Difficult Times (Tuesday, February 19, 6:45-8:30PM)

What difficulties are you experiencing? How do you respond to others going though a trying time? This will be an interactive session for those undergoing their own difficulties and for those who want to support others.

Chi Walking

The Chi Walking Program is an entirely new approach to creating health, fitness and well-being through the activity of walking. Chi Walking blends walking with the inner focuses of T'ai Chi, the ancient Chinese martial art that has gained much notoriety in this country for creating balance, strength, and improved cognition. Chi Walking is an inspirational, mind-body, health and fitness program that will get you up and out, and moving towards better health. More information on Chi Walking is available at this link. Classes will be taught by Craig Streitel, the only certified Chi Walking instructor in the area. Registration Fee applies.

What's Your Dream Plan for UUCDC?

Let's Talk at 'Discovery Cafés' in November and December

November and December will offer plenty of opportunities for UUCDCers to present their "dream-plans" for the church.

The Mission-Covenant Task Force has set up several "Discovery Cafes" that will enable congregation members and friends to offer thoughts on such questions as: Who are we? Where are we going? How do we get there? What kind of church do we want UUCDC to be?

Five years ago, the congregation took part in a similar re-examination process. The process is especially important this year as the Board makes the change to a Policy Governance model, giving the Board responsibility for defining policies, while the staff and committees implement them. The Board wants to know how you envision UUCDC.

On Jan. 25 and 26, a professionally led workshop will use the input from the Cafes to help refine the vision into a workable plan for UUCDC's future.

Also, potluck dinners are planned for March, with two large-group meetings and a final congregational meeting for voting in April. Details on those events will come later.

Discovery Cafés' dates, times and places are listed below. Sign-up sheets will be available after Sunday services for members and friends to choose when to participate.

Music Programming

An Invitation from our Church Music Team

Instrumental Ensembles

We invite you and your children to participate in our new youth instrumental music program. We will be developing ensembles to perform for church functions (and just for fun!). These will not necessarily be traditional instrumental groupings. We will adapt music for the instruments at hand. We're shooting for eclecticism, inclusiveness and quality over authenticity. For more information, contact Russ Ferrara.

Musical In Worship

All children and youth are invited sing or to play their instrument in a worship service. Please contact Ann Seidman, if your child/youth would like to share his/her talent.

Children's Choir

We are hoping to pull together a children's chorus at some point this year. If you and your children have an interest, please contact Beth Youse, with your ideas.

Beyond Sunday Mornings

Community Outreach & Principles In Action

Social Justice is an aspect of our Lifespan RE Program, learning how to put our UU Principles into action. This year we will spend our whole 5th Rotation doing community service projects and social justice education. We welcome your ideas & participation in the planning of this rotation.

Additional service opportunities are available through our church's Social Justice Committee.
